Re: your well-being plan for 2024?

Hey Reader,

Just checking in to see how you’re holding up. I know the year just started, yet many changemakers like you are already feeling behind or overwhelmed by all the things on your plate.

In fact, last week I came across this alarming stat from Calm: “69% of employees said their mental health worsened or stayed the same in the past year.”

If this describes you, know you’re not alone.

Participants in last month’s Virtual Wellness Retreat for Changemakers shared similar concerns. Here are some of the top challenges at work right now that we discussed.

  • Lack of clear direction (intention deficit disorder)
  • Changing goal posts
  • Constant change and uncertainty
  • Still adjusting to hybrid and remote work
  • Adapting to new workplace policies and changes
  • Feeling behind and overwhelmed
  • Feeling stuck
  • You’re ready but your colleagues aren’t

The truth is the workplace well-being landscape in 2024 is vastly different than ever before. However, many organizations are still stuck in the past, treating employee well-being as an afterthought.

So what can be done to evolve your organization's employee well-being strategy? What can you do to proactively take charge of your well-being at work this year?

The first step is to identify the things you have the power to influence right now regardless of your role in your organization. That’s why last month’s retreat focused on creating your 2024 C.H.A.N.G.E. plan for well-being while well-doing based on my new best-selling book.

We used the C.H.A.N.G.E. plan template, which includes 10 essential questions that walk you through mapping out your one-page plan for well-being while well-doing in 2024…AND how to follow through on it.

The good news is although the year has started there’s still time to put a solid plan in place you will follow through on. So at this month’s retreat, we’ll dig deeper and discuss how to stay on track and sustain momentum with your plan as we approach the end of the first quarter.

So, Reader, what’s your biggest challenge at work right and what do you need to make work work better for you? I’d love to hear from you. Seriously. Just reply to this email, type a short message, and hit reply. I personally read and respond to all messages.

I'll share some of the top responses in a future newsletter.

All the best,

Meico

Hey Reader—quick question: how do you take care of yourself while changing the world? Seriously, how? And, no, it's not a trick question! It's something that's been on my mind a lot over the past few months as I've engaged in a series of conversations with everyday changemakers about how to care for ourselves while doing important work in times of uncertainty, loss, and disruption. These conversations resulted in the first season of the Dear Mindful Changemaker podcast, which wrapped up a few...

Hey Reader, A few weeks ago, I was interviewed for a video series about the U.S. Surgeon General's Framework for Workplace Mental Health and Wellbeing. I joined work systems engineer Dr. Katherine Sanders to discuss practical ways to enhance workplace well-being, especially during difficult times or when there isn’t 100% alignment with your values and your organization’s mission. Watch the full interview here: https://youtu.be/2-a8ExjC5Nk We also discussed frameworks and strategies from my...
